Memorial Day 2014: Tour of the Edward Lloyd Parry Home

In conjunction with the celebration of Blodwen's 100th birthday and the unveiling of the new ELP headstone in the Manti Cemetery, we also took a tour of the Edward Lloyd Parry home in Manti, which is located at 50 N. 100 W. The current owners, who graciously conducted the tour, have spent the last several years restoring the home as much as possible to its original state, and they have done an outstanding job! Thank you, DW and LH! We are so grateful for your kindness, love, hospitality, and graciousness!

Edward Lloyd Parry's Mallet

This is one of Edward Lloyd Parry's mason mallets (owned by Yvonne Parry). Do you have any of ELP's possessions, tools, pictures, documents, etc., or know somebody who does? Please contact me at elephantnavel@gmail.com. We would like to photograph the item and put it on this blog for the benefit of all of his descendants.

New Monument for ELP in Manti - to be unveiled Memorial Day, May 26, 2014

The family of Blodwen Parry Olson, the only living granddaughter, has decided to replace the monument for Edward Lloyd Parry in the Manti City Cemetery.  Each year as we have placed flowers and otherwise visited his grave site, we have witnessed the deterioration of his present monument which was never engraved and is leaning precariously to one side.

(Since this picture was taken, it was attempted to be taken to the property of the Parry home in Manti. Unfortunately, it essentially crumbled apart in the move.)

As a descendant of this special man who did so much work on early pioneer temples we would like to give you the opportunity to contribute to the purchasing of a new monument and ask you to notify your family members as well. We have ordered a nice large monument from State Stone in Salt Lake made from Utah granite. We are hoping to have the monument installed by Memorial Day, May 26th, which also happens to be Blodwen Parry Olson's 100th birthday! The family of Blodwen is planning to have an unveiling of the monument and a celebration of her 100 years that day.

You are welcome to come and participate with us on Memorial Day. Please RSVP if interested and we will send you more information!

If you wish to contribute to the monument, please send any amount to:

Mr. Parry Olson

Ephraim, Utah 84627

Sincerely,

The Blodwen Parry Olson Family

The Books are Ready! (Second Edition)

Yesterday we picked up 50 copies of the second edition of The Life of Edward Lloyd Parry from the printers. They look great!

For an overview of the book's contents, click here.

How does this second edition differ from the first? We made a few changes to the layout, corrected some typos, added more pictures, added more sources in the "works consulted" section, changed the cover color from blue to maroon, and just overall made the book even better.

If you are interested in buying a copy of the book, please email me at elephantnavel@gmail.com. They cost $25 each plus $5 shipping. If you pick up the book personally, we will of course waive the shipping fee.
