Manti Temple Rock -- Book and Frame

Recently a reader sent me the following email: "I stumbled upon your blog first about a year ago while researching an interesting find I picked up in Denver. It's a pocket-sized book made of stone with 'Manti Temple Rock' on one side and an architectural model of the Manti Temple enclosed behind glass on the other side. Origin/provenance is unknown."

Compare the above photo to the one from the DUP Museum in Salt Lake City.

St. George Sandstone Quarry

Here are some pictures I took a couple of months ago at the St. George Sandstone Quarry in St. George, Utah. Edward Lloyd Parry is mentioned on the primary marker found at the quarry location itself. Notice the drill holes and tailings piles.

More information on the ELP Reunion 2018

We are still in the process of planning the reunion. We now have an LDS Church secured for Saturday, August 25, 2018, in Ephraim. Some of the activities we will likely do during the reunion include:

  • Meet fellow descendants of ELP. Film and photograph each other. Get to know each other better. Make connections.
  • Pedigree fill-in: Have a large wall in the cultural hall with a detailed pedigree of ELP on it. Descendants could come up and fill in missing information. We could subsequently disseminate the pedigree via email.
  • Eat in the cultural hall. Potluck (?).
  • Descendants would be encouraged to bring artifacts, photos, or documents they have regarding ELP, or a flash drive with these things on it. We would exchange such information.
  • Possibly have more ELP books there for purchase (?), as well as ELP t-shirts, and maybe even a souvenir coin. This is all up in the air at this point.
  • Visit the Manti Cemetery and ELP's tombstone.
  • Visit the ELP home in Manti.

Please mark your calendar, and we hope to see you there. It is going to be a wonderful celebration!

ELP Reunion coming up in 2018

Mark your calendars for the 200th birthday of Edward Lloyd Parry, which will take place on Saturday, August 25, 2018, in Manti, Utah. This will not only be a birthday celebration for ELP but also a family reunion for any of his descendants. It's going to be a wonderful occasion!

Today my family and I again toured the Edward Lloyd Parry home in Manti (50 N. 100 W.) in order to review the restoration progress. Things are coming together in a significant way, and soon the home will be fully restored. Here is a photo collage of that visit:

Painting of St. George Temple in DUP Museum

Edward Lloyd Parry was master stonemason of the St. George Temple. Nineteenth-century Norwegian artist Dan Weggeland painted a portrait of the temple. This painting is on display in the Daughters of Utah Pioneer Museum Salt Lake City. (Click on the image to enlarge it.)
